Three generations of Van der Bergs
In 1962 grandad Jan pushed a handcart of pipes and a blowtorch through the streets of Haarlem. The tools have changed. Not much else has.
Since 1962
Grandad Jan started in 1962 with a handcart full of pipes and fittings, working from a shed behind his house in the Rozenprieel. He did everything himself: gutters, water heaters, blocked toilets. Customers sometimes paid in kind, the family says. A bottle of jenever counted too.
His son Pieter took over in 1994 and turned it into a proper business, with two vans and a workshop in the Waarderpolder. He brought in the first boilers and expanded to Heemstede, Bloemendaal and Zandvoort.
Since 2019 grandson Tom has run the business. The principle is still the same as in grandad’s day. Call us at night and there’s a plumber on your doorstep in the morning. Sooner if it’s a real emergency.
