How we find the leak

We start at the water meter. If it keeps running with every tap closed, the leak is in the supply pipe. Then we use a moisture meter, a thermal camera and, for hidden pipes, sometimes tracer gas. With that gas we can find a leak under a tiled floor to within a few centimetres.

If the stain is under a bathroom, the cause is often simpler. A cracked seal along the bath, or a trap that's come loose.

Old pipes in the city centre

Many houses in the Vijfhoek, the Leidsebuurt and around the Kenaupark still have lead water pipes. They leak more often, and lead in drinking water isn't healthy. If we come across them, we'll tell you. Replacing them with copper or plastic usually takes one or two days.

Questions about leak repair

Will the floor have to come up?

Sometimes, but as little as possible. With tracer gas we usually know which tile to lift.

Does insurance cover leak detection?

With most home and contents policies it does, if there is water damage. Check with your insurer. Our report will help.

A stain on the kitchen ceiling. They found the leak under the bathroom floor with some kind of gas, and only one tile had to come up.

Good work, leak found and fixed. The invoice took a long time to arrive, but that’s the only thing.
